The almond is the fruit of the almond tree. It consists of a leathery coat containing an edible kernel. There are two forms of the almond. One sweet and one bitter. The almond is usually eaten raw although it is also used as an accompaniment to desserts. The sweet almond is also used in the production of flour for people suffering diabetes mellitus.
